According to Union Parish School District superintendent Steve Dozier, federal judge Robbie James is expected to reject the Union Parish School Board’s consolidation plan adopted last month and will recommend the closure of Downsville High School.

The School Board officially submitted its consolidation plan to Judge James last Friday. At a special meeting last month, the School Board adopted a consolidation plan that moved Spearsville High School and Marion High School students to Farmerville High School and expanded the school district at Downsville.
However, according to Dozier, James did not believe the expanded school district for Downsville went far enough to meet a federal desegregation order. Currently Downsville High School is more than 90 percent white, which does not reflect the racial makeup of the rest of the school district, which has a student body makeup approximately 50 percent white and 50 percent minority.
