U.S. District Court Judge Robbie James issued his official ruling July 2 to reject the Union Parish School Board’s consolidation plan adopted last month.
James’ order, filed in the Western District Court in Monroe, states that the School Board’s adopted consolidation plan did not meet a federal desegregation order. The School Board’s plan called for high school students at Marion High School and Spearsville High School to attend Farmerville high School and for Downsville High School to extend its district south of Lake D’Arbonne to bring more minority students to the nearly all-white school.
However, Judge James’ order states the School Board plan does not go far enough and should include the consolidation of Downsville High School into Farmerville High School.
