Police Jury accepts insurance settlement on destroyed land fill compactor

The June 1 fire that destroyed the landfill compactor of the Union Parish Police Jury continues to be the major issue at jury meetings.
At their July 6 regular meeting, jurors voted 8-0, with juror Vergil Ramsey absent, approving resolutions accepting the insurance settlement on the compactor and issuing a certificate of indebtedness for a new compactor.
The insurance settlement was for about $269,000 Jury President Johnny Buckley had previously been given authority to find a suitable compactor and to arrange for a lease until the jury can solicit a bond issue from the Louisiana Bond Commission and also apply for a possible grant from Delta Regional Authority through North Delta Regional Planning District.
