It’s all too often that budget cuts bring bad news to state agencies.
But sometimes changes brought about by such cuts bring good news, instead.
That’s the case for the LSU AgCenter’s Union Parish office, which is
one of three parishes, joining Catahoula and Concordia, being absorbed
in the AgCenter’s northeast region.
John Barnett, former director of the AgCenter's Central Louisiana
operations, has been tapped to oversee the 12-parish area which will
also include Franklin, Tensas, Madison, Caldwell, East Carroll, West
Carroll, Morehouse, Richland and Ouachita.
“It’s actually a good thing for us,” Jason Holmes, county agent for
the LSU AgCenter in Union Parish, said. “Geographically its just a
better fit. My people — my clients, like the Union Cattleman’s
Association — fit in better on the eastern part of the state. That’s
the region they work in and deal with.
