Jail costing jury $400K
Neighboring parishes see $1M in work release

At a time when parishes across the state are using inmate labor to help defray the costs of operating jails, the Union Parish Police Jury is projecting to take $400,000 from its general fund to balance the books at the Union Parish Detention Center because it has no work release inmates.
