School Board OKs raise of all employees
Increase of $1,000 annually

Before new school buses go into service this fall and long before students take advantage of nearly $40 million in improvements being made to schools throughout Union Parish, the first dividends of the tax package passed by voters this spring will start to stimulate the economy.

The Union Parish School Board earlier this month unanimously approved a motion to implement the $1,000 annual raise for all school system employees funded through the one percent sales tax approved by voters.

“It was something we told voters would be done, and something that was needed, especially for our support workers,” said Union Parish Schools superintendent Dr. George Cannon. “Our cafeteria workers, custodians – all of our support people – have been asked to go too long without any type of pay increase.”
