Qualifying closes with no real surprises
There were no surprises as qualifying closed last Friday for the Nov. 4 open primary elections.
All the expected candidates qualified for the major races, and no one qualified for any of the open positions in the Village of Lillie.
Sen. Mary Landrieu faces eight challengers in her bid for a fourth term. Chief among her challengers are Rep. Bill Cassidy of Baton Rouge, serving his third term representing the 6th Congressional District, and retired U.S. Air Force Col. Rob Maness.
Fourth District Rep. John Fleming is seeking a fourth term. Neither of the other candidates who qualified against Fleming are thought to be serious contenders.
