Pilgrim's Pride idles Farmerville plant

FARMERVILLE — North Louisiana’s economy and poultry industry took a crippling blow today as Pilgrim’s Pride confirmed it is closing its poultry processing plants in Farmerville and El Dorado, Ark.

Pilgrim’s Pride said it will idle the Farmerville and El Dorado plants along with one in Douglas, Ga., within 75 days. The company said the affected plants employ approximately 3,000 people and that around 430 independent contract growers also will be affected.
The move will affect 1,300 direct jobs in north Louisiana, with the closure impacting 290 independent growers who serve the Farmerville and El Dorado processing plants.
