Francis "Hacksaw" Brown (11-25-2009)
Memorial services for Francis “Hacksaw” Brown were held Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. at the home of his oldest daughter, Virginia Brown Fields. Minister Joseph Powell, III officiated the beautiful services. Brown, of Bernice, lived 75 precious years and 29 days before he entered into rest. He passed away Oct. 23 in Northern Louisiana Medical Center in Ruston. “Hacksaw” expired after a short illness. He was born Sept. 24, 1934 in Farmerville.
Brown attended Union Parish Training School in Farmerville. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Millard Hill Baptist Church in Farmerville.
“Hacksaw” was a loving and devoted husband, father, grand father, brother, uncle, cousin, classmate, friend and truck driver. His passion in life was his family and stepping up in his 18-wheeler to drive. Brown worked in the logging and trucking business for over 50 years. He had retired from J.A. Auger Trucking, Inc. He was well known by his own signature truck. Everyone knew “Hacksaw” was coming when they saw the big red truck, two license plates in the front, one with a yellow smiling face. You knew that was “Hacksaw.”
He will be missed by his family, neighbors, church members, friends and all that loved him and especially his co-workers from J.A. Auger Trucking.
He was proceeded in death by his first wife, Addie Lloyd Brown, his parents, Roy and Ida Hammock Brown, his step-mother, Anna H. Brown, mother’s-in-law, Charlotte Johnson and Jessie Bowie, father’s-in-law, Levi Lloyd and Melvin Bowie, step-sister, Clariece Cottingham Meeking, step-son, Clifton Booth, sister-in-law, Addie R. Jones and two brother’s-in-law, Johnny Boyd and Willis Owens.
Brown is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Jerrie Bowie Brown, four children, Virginia Fields and husband Ronnie, James Brown and wife Sharon, Marty Brown and wife Will Ann, and Shawn Brown, 11 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two step-children, two step-grandchildren and one step-great grandson, two sisters, June Chatman of San Pablo, Calif. and Inez B. Owens of Farmerville, and one brother-in-law, Wallace Meekings, Sr. of Farmerville.
