Photo of Caldwell HarrisCaldwell Harris, a retired deputy sheriff, passed away on February 20, 2010. Visitation will be held at Farrar Funeral Home, Farmerville on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 from 5-8 PM. Funeral services led by Rev. Johnny Hankins and assisted by Rev. Howard Hudson will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Farmerville United Methodist Church at 10a.m. with burial to follow at Bernice City Cemetery.
Caldwell served as chief civil deputy with the Union Parish Sheriff’s office for 31 years. During World War II, he served with the 37th Squadrons of the 17th Bomb Group in European Theater of Operations. He was a tail gunner on a B26 Marauder Bomber and made 33 combat missions over Italy, France, Austria, and Germany. He was an active member of Farmerville United Methodist Church and Methodist Men. He was a devoted husband, father, and “Big Bear”. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Adams Harris, of 71 years, two sons, David Harris and wife Vanette of Lafayette and Roger Harris and wife Judy of Choudrant, three grandchildren, Stephanie and Rusty Welch of
Choudrant, Ashley and Diane Harris of Lafayette and Emilie and Roy Salvagio of Austin, Texas, three great grandchildren, Brook Welch of Choudrant, Cooper Harris of Lafayette and Vincent Salvagio of Austin, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: John Preaus, Buddy Fisher, Scotty Booth, Jimmy Miller, Rex Cobb and Bennie Adams.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Farmerville United Methodist Men.
