Funeral services for Elmer Walter Wilson Jr., 89, of Linville were held at 2 p.m. March 27 at Liberty Baptist Church in Linville. Rev. Donald Reeves officiated. Interment followed at the Liberty Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville.Mr. Wilson passed away March 24 at home. He was born July 9, 1920 in Bigelow, Ark. to E. W. Wilson, Sr. and Ethyl Pratt Wilson.
He was a graduate of Linville High School class of 1939 of which he was valedictorian. He was an active 4-Her in high school and was a 4-H volunteer throughout his life. He served with the 388th Army Air Corps. during WWII and returned to Union Parish upon his discharge from the military. Mr. Wilson served on the Union Parish Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 27 years. He was a life member of the 388th Bomb Group Association and enjoyed traveling to their yearly reunions. He was also a life member of American Legion Post 147 and the VFW post 5442 in Farmerville.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Margaret Wilson Robbins; and brothers, Robert Oesch and Eugene Channell.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Maybeth Johnson Wilson; son, E. W. Wilson, III and wife Verna of Enterprise, Ala.; son, Robert Wilson and wife Jeanette of Linville; daughter, Nancy Harvey and husband Albert of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Grace Brasher and husband Mel of Covington; daughter, Dorothy Donald and husband Hub of Calhoun; grandchildren Jack Robbins (Kari), Rona Holmes (David), Jeff Robbins, Kyle Robbins, Eric Wilson (Nicky), Stacy Umfress (Brock), and Megan Brasher; great-grandchildren Katy and Dylan Robbins, Matthew, Luke and Ryan Holmes, Samuel Wilson, and Kaylee Umfress; sister-in-laws Helen Channel and Grace Moores; brother in-law Tom Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Jack Robbins; Eric Wilson; Mel Brasher; Don Wheeler; Vernon Ray, and Marvin McKinnie.Visitation was held March 26 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church.
