Funeral Services for Daniel Marvin Johnstone, 76 of Marion, LA, were held on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Farmerville with Rev. Terry Cole, assisted by Rev. Johnny Johnstone and Rev. Robin Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville, LA.
Mr. Johnstone was born on March 13, 1934 in Marion, LA., and passed away on March 30, 2010 in Shreveport, LA. A retired oilfield worker and log truck driver he was affectionally known by everyone as “Goober Dan” he was a very loving husband, father, brother, friend, and Papaw. Goober Dan had lots of family and friends in the community, he was a very well known man. He truly loved the outdoors. He loved to sit outdoors and watch the birds and just look at everything in it’s natural beauty. Most of all he loved to talk with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley “Jock” Johnstone, Mary Canterbury Johnstone, two brothers, Harry Johnstone, and Snake Johnstone, sister, Annie Lois Johnstone, daughter, Donna Johnstone Hamilton, baby grandson, Daniel Johnstone.
He is survived by his wife Wanda Johnstone of Marion, LA; two daughters, Quida Moncrief of Farmerville, LA; Victoria Johnstone of Monroe, LA; four sons, Wade Bailey and wife Joyce of Marion, LA; James Bailey and wife Rita of Greenbriar, AR; Daniel Johnstone Jr. of Marion, LA; and Colby Johnstone of Marion, LA; one son-in-law Scott Hamilton, and thirteen grandchildren. One brother, Roy Johnstone of Marion, LA; six sisters, Katie Mae Johnstone McGough and husband Roscoe of Sterlington, LA; Margie Johnstone Cole of Farmerville, LA; Mary Jane Johnstone Ward of New Orleans, LA; Shirley Johnstone Brantley and husband John of Haile, LA; Dorothy Johnstone Morrow of Bernice, LA; Dolly Johnstone Tartar and husband Rod of Columbia, LA.
Pallbearers were Virgil Brantley, Jerry Brantley, Vernon Ray, David Nowlin, J.D. Stansbury, and Steven Hodge.
Honorary Pallbearers are Roscoe McGough, Irvin Redden and Rusty Bradshaw.
Special music will be provided by Robin and Susan Charlene Cox.
Visitation was Friday, April 3, 2010 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Farmerville.
