Ellen Ramsey Gillum (06-16-2010)
A Funeral Mass for Ellen Ramsey Gillum, 87, of Ruston, LA was held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2010 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Father Blane O’Neill, OFM officiated the service. Interment followed in the Farmerville City Cemetery in Farmerville, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.
Mrs. Gillum was born in Farmerville, La on December 3, 1922 to Dr. and Mrs. George A. Ramsey and died in Ruston, LA on June 10, 2010 following a lengthy illness.
She was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and a member of the St. Thomas Women’s Guild. Ellen’s favorite hobbies were working outside gardening, playing bridge with a group of her friends and in later years playing games of solitaire at her kitchen table. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren putting puzzles together. Ellen so enjoyed visiting with her friends over a good cup of coffee whether it was during the day or late at night. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. What stories she could tell, and the children loved to hear them.
Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. George A. Ramsey and Oma Goodson Ramsey; brother, George A. Ramsey Jr.; husbands, Jack P. Voitier and Edwin F. Gillum; daughter, Mary Ellen Voitier Bass; son-in-law, Aylmer Rainwater; granddaughter, Jennifer Melise Bass; and nephew, Christopher Ramsey.
She is survived by her children: George E. Gillum and wife Pat of Ruston, LA; Virginia Gillum Rainwater of Ruston, LA; Billy Gillum and wife Denise of Kilgore, TX; grandchildren: David Bass, Laurie Bass Evans and husband Kyle, Katie Bass Blankenship and husband Chad, Scott Gillum and wife Melissa, Becky Gillum Smith and husband Hunter, Michael Gillum, Libby Rainwater Lindsey and husband Lile, Lee Rainwater and wife Carolyn, Lindsey Gillum, Gabe Gillum and wife Jessica, step grandchild, Trey Battaglia; 10 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Ramsey of Jacksonville, FL; two nieces; and many other family and friends.
The family would like to express great appreciation for the love, care, and thoughtfulness given to their mother at the Russ House, Carroll Home Health, Ruston Nursing and Rehab Center, and North Louisiana Medical Center.
Memorials may be made to the St. Thomas Building Fund or to the charity of your choice.
Pallbearers were David Bass, Scott Gillum, Michael Gillum, Lee Rainwater, Gabe Gillum, Chad Blankenship, Kyle Evans, Lile Lindsey, Hunter Smith, and Doug Bass.
Honorary pallbearers were James Anderson, Donald Colvin, James Liberatos, Jim Mitchell, and Johnny Mitchell.
Visitation was from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, June 13, 2010 with a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.
