Union Parish Sheriff ’s Office Chief Deputy Bill Webb and his Street Crimes Unit took to the roads in and around Farmerville Saturday to work on cleaning up some of the crime in Union Parish.

Three teams, made up of full-time and reserve officers, left headquarters around 7 a.m. to begin executing warrants in the parish and making mandatory check ins with certain people.

“Our main focus was serving sex offender warrants today. We did and also several other arrests were made by the SCU,” Webb said.

Warrants in hand, the teams hit address after address searching for the offenders. Some they found, others either weren’t home, had moved or were deceased. At the end of the day, six arrests were made and two summons arrests were issued.

One of the arrests netted 39g of marijuana, several pills, synthetic drugs and various paraphernalia, all in the presence of minor children.

This (SCU) is something we’ve been wanting to do for quite a while,” said UP Sheriff Dusty Gates. “We’ve wanted to get aggressive in dealing with drug problems in the parish. This unit has made numerous drug arrests and it’s going to get more aggressive. We want to make Union Parish a place drug dealers want to stay away from.”
