It is no secret that COVID-19 has had a negative impact on small businesses across the parish, state and country. Farmerville’s economy and overall wellbeing depend on these local small businesses. Many of these local businesses make the majority of their profits in November and December.
The Corona virus pandemic has reduced the customer count throughout this year. This 2020 holiday shopping season may be one of the most important seasons ever for the small businesses of Union Parish. With this in mind, the Union Parish Chamber of Commerce has once again worked with local retailers to organize two “Shop Local” events.
These events organized by the Chamber will bring awareness to local shopping. “It is the local mom & pop shops that support local charities and sports teams,” said Union Parish Chamber of Commerce President, Jon McKinnie. “They are the ones who keep local accountants and bank service providers in business. It is up to us now to do our part and shop locally this holiday season.”
The first event will be held on December 6 from 1-5 p.m. There will be photos with Santa, Christmas tree lighting, Christmas lighting contest, special pricing, specialty items available at many local shops and a drawing for a $100 gift card. This event is sure to jump start the shopping season and fill the heart with Christmas cheer.
The second shop local event will be Shop UP. It will be held on December 13 from 1-5 p.m. It will be a parish wide event, not just Farmerville. Local businesses all across the parish will be open for business to meet your Christmas shopping needs. During this event, shopping at participating retailers will earn shoppers special pricing and enters their names into a drawing for many gift cards. “Mark your calendars for December 6 and 13,” said McKinnie. “Take advantage of the special pricing and get in the drawing for the gift cards but most importantly, support your local retailers.”
