UPSO was made aware last week of a threat of violence at Union Parish High School. Detectives and School Resource Officers are actively investigating this threat.
“We take any and all threats very seriously,” said Union Parish Sheriff Dusty Gates this week. “One of my top priorities is to ensure the safety of all our students in our schools. The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office will work diligently to make our students feel safe as they obtain their education in our parish schools.”
Union Parish School Superintendent Ted Reeves echoed Gates’ safety concern. “Our main objective is the safety of our students and staff,” Reeves said Tuesday. “We are very appreciative of the response by (UPSO).”
The Sheriff’s office said UPHS Principal Misty Echols was made aware of the situation.
As this is an active investigation, no further information was available at press time.
